  • Mio Technology's Handhelds Post 79% Growth in Q4 2004
(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Taipei, Taiwan, February 18, 2005)

Mio Technology is moving aggressively in the GPS market. According to the latest statistics from research firm Canalys, shipments of Mio Technology's handhelds in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) increased 79% between the third and fourth quarters of 2004. In addition, Mio Technology is introducing new products in other regions. The Mio136 and Mio168RS went on sale in Australia and the United States in mid-February, and the latter product will make its official debut in Japan during March. These additional markets will provide a strong boost to Mio Technology's shipments of handhelds in the first half of this year.

"In the space of a year, Mio Technology has become a top 5 handheld vendor in EMEA, thanks to competitive pricing and a focus on the growing navigation segment," said Chris Jones, Canalys director and senior analyst.

Beginning in mid-February, the Mio136 and Mio168RS have been sold through Synnex Australia in its home market. The Australian version of the Mio136 features an all-black shell with an integrated Mio Map electronic map solution. The Mio168RS uses Travroute's Co-pilot map solution. In the United States, the Mio136 and Mio168RS are being sold through Synnex Corporation, and come with Mio Map. Meanwhile, sales of the Mio168RS in Japan will be overseen by Mio Technology's Japanese subsidiary, with the launch on the intensely competitive consumer products market in Japan set to take place in March.
